Biomass cogeneration is an energy optimizing process which produces combined electricity and heat in the form of hot water. A biomass cogeneration plant offers even more value for money if combined with a pellet production plant, as the recovered heat can be used in the drying process, considerably increasing the efficiency of the system.
The cogenerator is installed between the biomass boiler and the dryer and consists of a turbine, exchangers and a number of circuits. The fluid in the cogenerator evaporates at high temperature, the steam activates the turbine, which produces electricity and generates hot cooling water which is conveyed to the belt dryer and used in the pellet production process.
The electricity generated can also be sent back to the grid, or used to power the plant.
